Its been a long time coming but I've finally got another review today. Its just a quick one really as I'm assuming a lot of people would've already seen this film due to its age. So today its Top Gun.
Well I never expected to like Top Gun as much as I did. I never
really thought it was my kind of film but I think I've worked out by
now that I don't really have a particular type of film that I enjoy
more than others, I seem to like a bit of each genre. So when my
friends suggested watching Top Gun I wasn't sure, but I really got
into in the end.
Released in 1986 by director Tony Scott, Top Gun is considered by
some to be a classic. Starring Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer and Kelly
McGillis, Top Gun follows fighter pilot Maverick as he is sent to The
Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School in order to refine his skills
and continue his training. However, compared to the others in his
class Maverick is more reckless and at times can seem quite cocky. He
can seem quite full of himself and like he knows it all, leading the
others to look down on him but this also comes from some of his
families history as his father was also a fighter pilot.
Now we all know I'm not always one for giving spoilers and as most of
you should've seen this film considering how long its been out, I'm
not going to go through everything that happens. But instead tell you
that I think it is an awesome film, simple as that. The soundtrack
was just incredible for the film and worked so well with the story,
although there were times where it could get repetitive. There is
only so many times a person can listen to Danger Zone and Take my
Breath Away in one film, but regardless of that the songs chosen
helped to set each scene and added to the enjoyment. As I write this
I'm currently listening the soundtrack so I must've liked it enough
to look it up.
Seeing Tom Cruise play the star role was great, but it was odd to see
such a young Tom Cruise. It's fair to say he hasn't lost his good
looks. He played Maverick well and it was almost as if the role was
pretty perfect for him really. He was able to act as the cocky guy
that people couldn't beat but also as the sensitive guy who can show
his feelings.
I actually really enjoyed watching Top Gun and I definitely think I
would watch it again. My friends and I did get a bit too attached to
the character Goose, so when he dies we were a tad heart broken to
lose the friendly joker of the film. Definitely think you should all
watch it, you might find yourselves liking it unexpectedly. I can see
why to some this film is considered a classic, its like one of those
films that no matter how old it actually is, it somehow never gets
old to watch. As an added bonus I might even go as far to say I'd
rate it a 4 out of 5, that's pretty generous for me I think.
Anyway guys, head on over to Netflix and get Top Gun on!
Until next time, thanks for reading :) x
